What was the highlight of Hotel Quinta das Lagrimas

Perfect service in beautiful surroundings.

Staff were all helpful, courteous and friendly. We were treated like royalty! The breakfast was extensive nothing you could not want. It was my husband's birthday so they gave us a glass of bubbly and small cake. We also ate in the restaurant Arcadas which was definitely worth a visit. We had a set menu which also came with two 'amuse bouche' all of which were delicious and excellent service. If you are looking to spoil yourself on a special occasion we definitely recommend and we have eaten in many 'good' restaurants. We shall go back again for sure.

If I have to make one criticism it would be cheap toilet paper...but this is common even in the best hotels so I am being picky!

A perfect couple of days.

This is a delightful hotel and delivers on the 5 stars. Everything is comfortable, it´s a wonderful building with many areas to spend time wandering the gardens or reading inside by the fireplace. And Arcadas restaurant has amazing food. The staff are 10/10 - they were perceptive and helpful at every turn. We loved our stay.

A unique property with tons of character and a staff with an old world concept of service

This hotel is in a historic palace with some nice gardens that include a lot of Moorish-inspired fountains and watercourses that make us of a spring on the hill behind the property. You can stay in either the original palace or in a more modern detached building; we chose the original palace. It seemed as though more than half of the floor plan of the palace has been given over to a variety of sitting rooms, each decorated with old-world furniture, tables, and art work, so you feel like you're in a museum. The experience of the place is a big part of the stay. The staff provides the level of attention you'd expect at the Waldorf Astoria; the kind of experience where you think that they must be mistaking you for a celebrity or something because nobody else ever treats you that well. The included breakfast was superb; we had some great breakfasts on this trip, and while this one wasn't the very best, it was still so far beyond what you'd get at a similarly priced American hotel that only a person with deep emotional issues would find any cause to complain. We were driving from Porto to Lisbon and stopped in at Coimbra to see the various sights there in one afternoon, so we were pressed for time and stayed just one night, but I imagine that a longer stay would have allowed us to enjoy the place a good deal more.

The downside of being in a historic building it that the rooms aren't quite as up-to-date as might be desired. The floorboards of the hardwood floor in our room squeaked mercilessly when we moved around. The bath was nice, but the light switches were wired so that, unless you studied the switch system carefully before you went to sleep, there was no way to turn on a bathroom light in the night without also lighting up the whole bedroom.

A lovely memorable experience

Beautiful hotel with swimming pool in beautiful grounds. Make sure that you explore both the hotel and its grounds Excellent breakfast choices (although only to be expected). Comfortable room in the spa annexe.

Food and drink very expensive compared to prices in the city. Expect a hotel of this nature to have increased prices but I felt they were a little too excessive.

Beyond amazing.

The most amazing hotel I have ever seen on any continent. Incredible garden, fab history, lovely, welcoming staff with a special shout-out for Vera, the outstanding sommelière at Arcadas (a meal to die for!). Honestly, QdL deserves a 15 out of 10 - money well spent!

Great hotel to visit Coimbra

Great mansion with a wonderful swimming pool and a beautiful garden. Excellent staff. Good restaurants. Just an easy 15 min walk to Coimbra. We stayed in the Palace rooms, a bit more expensive but certainly worth the money.

A delightful hotel. I feel lucky to have stayed there.

Luxurious and charming hotel with a great outdoor breakfast and lovely pool. Very romantic gardens.
